The crash happened at Baker and Hayes streets in NoPa, near the Panhandle. The San Francisco Fire Department said Wednesday that four people were taken to hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.
The case has been turned over to the San Francisco Police Department, which did not respond to a request for additional information about the crash Thursday morning.
The video shows two pedestrians near the corner as a black Audi enters the intersection. Seconds later, an open-sided, three-wheeled vehicle enters the frame and strikes the side of the Audi. The impact sends at least one occupant of the three-wheeled vehicle onto the street as the Audi spins toward the corner.
The video appears to show the Audi entering the intersection after the traffic signal for its direction had turned red. The Chronicle could not immediately determine what happened before the video began, how fast either vehicle was traveling or whether police had determined the cause of the crash.
Photos from the scene showed yellow police tape across the roadway, several police vehicles and heavy damage to the Audi’s side. The three-wheeled vehicle remained in or near the crosswalk after the collision.
The crash happened beside a cluster of community-serving facilities, including Mercy Family Plaza, an affordable housing complex, the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center and San Francisco Health Care and Rehab, a nursing home.
A Reddit user who said he was one of the pedestrians wrote that he suffered a broken hip and that his wife was not hit. The Chronicle could not immediately verify the user’s identity or confirm whether the person was among the four people hospitalized. The Reddit user did not respond to a request for an interview.
Arcimoto describes its Fun Utility Vehicle and Modular Utility Vehicle as three-wheeled electric vehicles with a top speed of 75 mph, but the Chronicle has not confirmed the exact make of the vehicle involved in the crash.
