A motorist who was pursued by police for roughly 45 minutes across San Diego County on June 4 was arrested when the chase ended in La Jolla.
At about 6:30 a.m., police in Escondido saw a Toyota Camry that the California Highway Patrol had been chasing but lost sight of earlier in the morning, officials said.
When officers tried to pull over the driver, he refused to yield, according to Escondido police Sgt. Chris Dare. The car then proceeded west and south at moderate speeds through various San Diego-area communities, Dare said.
The pursuit ended in La Jolla, where the Camry rear-ended another vehicle and ran over a tire-flattening spike strip that officers had laid in its path, authorities said. Officers then arrested the driver with help from a police dog, Dare said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for evaluation before being booked into jail.
