The top federal prosecutor for Los Angeles says Friday that there are “multiple election fraud investigations underway” as the agonizingly slow vote count to determine who will land on the November ballot for California’s governor and face off against Mayor Karen Bass continues.
“Yes. There is evidence of election fraud in California. Here’s a case we charged just last month. More investigations are underway,” Essayli wrote in an X post Friday. As part of that thread, he added: “California’s election system has serious structural vulnerabilities. Universal vote-by-mail with no voter ID requirements creates conditions where fraud can go undetected and unpunished, eroding public confidence.”
Essayli pointed to a recent case that led to the arrest of a Marina del Rey woman for paying Skid Row residents to sign ballots and register to vote at her address. Brenda Lee Brown, 64, entered into a plea deal with prosecutors last month after she was hit with one felony count of paying another person to register to vote.
