The San Jose Sharks have won three of their past four games, but came away from Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche with an injury.
Timothy Liljegren left the game in the first period after a puck was deflected into the Sharks’ bench and caught the defenseman in the face.
There was a media timeout following the whistle, and Liljegren would need assistance going to the dressing room. Fortunately, San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky believes the team avoided a serious injury.
“I mean, I’ve gotten hit on the bench before. It’s not enjoyable. It’s unfortunate. We think he’s gonna be okay. We’ll get an update this afternoon,” Warsofsky said. “We don’t think [he’ll be out long-term] right now. He is still being evaluated, though.”

This is Liljegren’s second upper-body injury of the season. Liljegren missed three games earlier in the season with a UBI.
Dickinson is still in San Jose, but will he play?
Like before the game, the San Jose Sharks head coach wouldn’t reveal anything about the status of his top defense prospect, Sam Dickinson.
“He’s here today. He’s with the guys in the room,” Warsofsky said with a smile.
But will he play against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday?

“Yeah, tomorrow is a possibility. We’ll see,” Warsofsky said. “We’ll meet with Mike [Grier] in the morning. Obviously, [we got] a little banged up, so there’ll be some injuries and potential lineup changes, but we’ll worry about that tomorrow.”

The San Jose Sharks won’t be holding a morning skate for multiple reasons. The obvious one is the game against the Avalanche on Saturday. The other is due to another non-traditional start time, 5 p.m. PT.
Warsfosky will have his standard pregame media scrum approximately two and a half hours before the game.
