The New York Giants (2-6) host the San Francisco 49ers (5-3) on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium in a battle between two teams dealing with an abundance of injuries.

Both squads will limp into the game, which features rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart back at home, where he remains undefeated. He will be facing a very thin 49ers squad whose secondary appears ripe for the picking.

It will be a beautiful day in the Meadowlands, where temperatures are expected to rise above 60 degrees, accompanied by light winds.

Follow below for live coverage, breaking news, injury updates, and highlights from the Week 9 game.

Defense? What defense?

Following a Jaxson Dart touchdown that kept the Giants’ slim hopes alive, the defense again caved, allowing the 49ers to drive 60 yards on six plays before running back Christian McCaffrey punched it in from three yards out.

Injury alert: CB Korie Black

Late in the fourth quarter, Giants cornerback Korie Black suffered an apparent leg/ankle injury and limped off the field.

Dart never quits

On a team filled with players who seem to accept losing, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart stands out as someone who fights for every inch on every play.

With the game effectively over, Dart took things into his own hands and orchestrated a seven-play, 65-yard drive in which he called his own number several times, including a six-yard touchdown run. It won’t be enough to salvage the game, but at least someone is putting some effort in.

49ers put it away

With just under 12:00 remaining in the game, the 49ers put things away with an 18-yard touchdown run by Brian Robinson, who bowled over cornerback Deonte Banks.

The run capped off a nine-play, 76-yard drive.

Injury update: OL John Michael Schmitz

Center John Michael Schmitz has been ruled out for the game with a shin injury.

Giants go conservative

With the game slipping away, Giants head coach Brian Daboll opted to go conservative, facing a fourth-and-33 from their own three-yard line. Instead of attempting the fourth down, they settled for a 22-yard Graham Gano field goal to cap off an eight-play, 64-yard drive.

Injury alert: WR Beaux Collins

Rookie wide receiver Beaux Collins is questionable to return with an undisclosed injury.

Update: Collins has been ruled out for the game with a neck injury.

Injury alert: OL John Michael Schmitz

Early on their first offensive series of the second half, center John Michael Schmitz (ankle?) went down and was quickly attended to by trainers. Although his injury was not immediately clear, JMS limped off the field with team doctors.

49ers pile on

After a penalized opening-half kickoff from Jamie Gillan, the 49ers started on the 40-yard line and rapidly drove 46 yards on 13 plays, but were held out of the endzone thanks to a Korie Black pass defensed. They settled for a 33-yard field goal to extend their lead.

Injury update: LB Darius Muasau

After suffering an ankle injury in the second quarter, linebacker Darius Muasau was initially listed as questionable to return. Coming out for the second half, the Giants downgraded him to out.

After forcing a turnover and setting up at the 27-yard line, the Giants’ offensive series went as follows: 0-yard run, Tyrone Tracy Jr. drop, Theo Johnson drop.

Kicker Graham Gano then proceeded to miss a 45-yard field goal wide left.

Giants defense shows up

In desperate need of a big play, linebacker Brian Burns recorded a sack-fumble on 49ers quarterback Mac Jones. The ball fluttered in the air and was pulled down by rookie linebacker Abdul Carter.

The call on the field was a fumble, but it may be changed to an interception later.

Long FG victimizes Giants again

With the Giants’ offense unable to convert a first down, the 49ers quickly got the ball back after their last touchdown and found themselves in plus territory. Although they couldn’t log a first down, they settled for a 54-yard field goal — a common nemesis for New York.

49ers making it look easy

After forcing the Giants to a three-and-out on their second offensive series, the 49ers again drove down the field with ease, marching 80 yards on just eight plays. Quarterback Mac Jones again capped things off, this time with an 11-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

San Francisco had plays of 12, 12, 16, 21, and 11 yards on the drive.

Officials help 49ers answer

The Giants were victimized by several bad calls or no calls in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles, and that trend continued against the 49ers on Sunday.

On a fourth-and-1 in Giants territory, the 49ers opted to go for it and committed an obvious false start. It went uncalled, and they picked up the first down, only to commit another false start later on the drive. That, too, went uncalled.

Aided by those two freebies, San Francisco capped off a 12-play, 68-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mac Jones to a wide-open running back Christian McCaffrey.

Opening drive touchdown

Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart started hot again on Sunday, orchestrating a 10-play, 64-yard touchdown drive capped off by a 15-yard pass to tight end Theo Johnson for the score.

Jalin Hyatt as kick returner

On the opening kickoff of the game, wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who was inactive in Week 8, lined up as a kick returner next to Gunner Olszewski.

49ers win the coin toss

The 49ers won the toss and opted to defer. The Giants will receive the opening kickoff and start on offense. San Francisco will field the second half kickoff.

Plane protest

For the first time this season, a banner has been flown over MetLife Stadium ahead of kickoff. This time, the protest banner read, “Mr. Mara, enough is enough. Clean house!”

Bobby Skinner of the Giants Nation Show podcast also flew a banner over the stadium on Sunday, reading, “Mr. Mara, get well soon & watch Giants Nation Show.”
