Maria completed eight AP courses, was president of the Cultural Enrichment Club, and participated in Varsity Field hockey, (all four years, two years as captain), Club/Travel Field Hockey, Varsity Lacrosse, as well as Club Rowing team and Varsity Rowing team. Maria participated in Ukrainian Culture and Studies and Ukrainian Plast Scouting Organization. Maria’s volunteer service has included: research with the University of Michigan’s Optimize program; Focus Hope, Evergreen Rehabilitation Center; Project Term Service Learning, assisted in rebuilding a coal-mining community through garden restoration projects, English tutor for French students (Nantes, France), supported Sustainable Farming with rural Puerto Rican farmers through fieldwork and learning (Carite, Puerto Rico), and conducted cultural research and fundraising to help support the building of Cultural Strengthening Centers, (Iquitos, Peru). Brandon was active in the Youth Federation of Temple Israel for four years, serving as vice president of Jewish Community Relations for two years, and he participated in the Jewish Student Union at Berkley High School, including a one year role as the head of recruitment. Brandon participated in the Coalition for Black & Jewish Unity Leadership Academy, working to build meaningful connections between Jewish and African American communities, including traveling to Washington, D.C., to speak to policymakers. Brandon also served as the head coach of a middle school NFL SNAP Flag Football team for three seasons. Brandon plans to attend the University of Michigan.

Duke advocated, collected, and delivered 6-8 months worth of food for St. Jude’s Food Pantry, collected donations for a charity hockey game (Pink in the Rink), which raised over $60,000 for cancer research, assembled goodie bags for children attending a Christmas tree lighting. Duke also ran the school’s tutoring program for underclassmen and gave tours of the school to prospective students and families. Saghana was involved in HOSA (President), Varsity Debate (President), Chess Club (Founder and President), Student Council (Executive Vice-President), Mock Trial (Co-Captain), and NHS. Outside of school, Saghana is the president of the Executive Junior Board for Easterseals MORC, a nonprofit for individuals with disabilities. Saghana volunteered more than 50 hours at food pantries including Open Door Food Pantry and Fish & Loaves Food Pantry, and volunteers at the Miracle League of Michigan.
