Long Beach Symphony’s annual gala, “Crescendo: All That Jazz,” hosted by the symphony’s Board of Directors, took place last month at The Westin.
It brought more than 230 guests together for an unforgettable evening of music, community and philanthropy in support of the symphony’s extensive music education programs serving Long Beach students.
Inspired by the ambiance of a speakeasy (complete with a hidden entrance to the dining room), the event featured a lively cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, an elegantdinner, and outstanding musical performances by the symphony. Guests also enjoyed the opportunity to mingle with the musicians, community leaders and fellow supporters of the arts.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Long Beach Symphony’s Luminary Award to Lyn and John Pohlmann, in recognition of their commitment to nurturing the nextgeneration of musicians through their philanthropy, charity and steadfast support of the symphony’s music education mission.
Throughout the evening, attendees bid on exclusive experiences, rare wines and special auction packages. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of its donors, sponsors, auctionparticipants and guests, the symphony raised more than $250,000 in vital funding to support its music education programs throughout Long Beach. These funds will help ensurethat students across the community continue to have access to high-quality arts education and meaningful musical performances.
Proceeds from the May 3 gala will support Long Beach Symphony’s concert season, including its 12 major performances at the Long Beach Terrace Theater and Arena, as well as more than150 free youth-focused performances and educational programs that reach over 27,000 students annually through partnerships with LBUSD and other community organizations.
