The San Diego Wave fight for playoff position on the final day of the National Women’s Soccer League regular season, as they get set to face the best team in the league, the Kansas City Current.
While the Current have absolutely nothing to play for on Sunday, the Wave are trying to earn a better seed heading into the postseason. While the club has clinched a playoff spot, they would not mind moving up a few spots.

San Diego sits fifth in the NWSL, one point back of the Seattle Reign, but just one point ahead of Gotham FC for seventh. If the Wave were to win on Sunday, and the Orlando Pride draw with the Reign, the Wave could move up to third in the league. However, a loss, and the possibility that Gotham can beat the North Carolina Courage, and San Diego could all the way down to seventh.
The Current are having an incredible season, having lost just twice, and winning 20 of the team’s first 25 matches of the season.
