Family and friends gathered Sunday night along the Sacramento waterfront to remember 31-year-old Kenneth Peace, who relatives say was shot and killed at a Sacramento County liquor store.The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Peace was shot Saturday inside Prestige Liquor and Wine. Deputies said the gunman had fled by the time they arrived.At the vigil, loved ones embraced, prayed, and honored Peace with candles, white balloons, and chalk messages. Family members said Peace, whom relatives nicknamed “King Tut,” was a devoted father and a steady presence in their lives.“When people talk about Kenneth, I want them to understand who he truly was,” his cousin, Patrice Edwards, said. “Kenneth was a family man. He was dependable. He was the person who showed up.”Edwards described the family’s grief as overwhelming and said Peace’s death has affected far more than one person.“You have caused unimaginable pain. You didn’t just take one life; you shattered an entire family,” Edwards said.She said Peace leaves behind two young children and a large extended family.“You robbed two children of father and mother, of innocent civilians, of their brothers, cousins, other family members, and friends, and someone they cared about deeply,” Edwards said. “Kenneth deserved to grow old.”Edwards said Peace should have had the chance to see his children, identified by family as Zaria and Aria, reach major milestones.“Kenneth deserved to grow old. He deserved to watch Zaria and Aria graduate,” she said. “He deserved birthdays, weddings, baby showers and celebrations for decades to come.”A family friend, Claudia Jenkins, said the family is grieving together while trying to remain strong.“We’re weeping for each other. We’re grieving for each other. But we’re holding on,” she said.Even as they mourn, relatives said they want the public to focus on helping investigators solve the case.“Tonight is not only about mourning.
