The direct examination of Sacramento police’s lead investigator in the city’s deadliest shooting continues in the K Street murder trial on Monday.Detective Shaun McGovern has faced multiple days of direct examination. Friday’s testimony was, visually, some of the most intense of the trial so far. While the shooting had been shown multiple times in court over the last month, the testimony showed the events leading up to, and then the events of the shooting, nearly minute by minute, then second by second from each person’s perspective. Six people died, and 12 more were injured in the shooting along the nightlife corridor. The remaining defendants are Mtula Payton and Dandrae Martin, who face murder and weapons charges. At issue in this trial is whether the shooting stemmed from a gang-related standoff or if friends were simply hanging out until a conversation spiraled into gunfire.K Street trial updates todayFind live updates below as they occurUpdates from May 12 and afterward Updates from the beginning of the trialThe victims in the K Street shootingThe three victims are 21-year-old Johntaya “JoJo” Alexander, 57-year-old Melinda Davis, and 21-year-old Yamile Martinez-Andrade.
