SAN JOSE — A man and woman were rushed to the hospital following a shooting reported Monday morning in the parking lot of a Kaiser Permanente medical complex on Cottle Road, police said.
The gunfire was reported at 10:14 a.m. on Cottle Road just north of where Beswick Drive turns into Raleigh Road, amid a series of nondescript medical offices housed across the street from a busy shopping plaza, according to a social-media post from the San Jose Police Department.
Both wounded people were transported with life-threatening injuries, police said. The department did not immediately release additional details other than stating a belief that the shooting was “an isolated incident.
Police declined comment when asked if the suspected shooter is outstanding or among the injured parties, but an SJPD spokesperson said there was no ongoing public safety threat in the wake of the shooting.
Staff at the medical offices initially sheltered in place, and appointments were cancelled following the shooting, according to an employee. A Kaiser spokesperson deferred a request for comment to SJPD.
Streets surrounding the crime scene were expected to be closed or restricted while investigators examine the site, police said.
