(FOX 5/KUSI) — It’s been one week since the end of voting in California’s primary election, but the counting continues as election offices process millions of mail-in ballots.
The Associated Press has projected that Democrat Xavier Becerra will advance to the general election for governor, but the second candidate who would advance has not been determined.
Here’s an overview of some key San Diego-area elections one week after Election Day.
San Diego County Supervisor – District 5
Five candidates faced off for the county supervisor seat, hoping to replace Jim Desmond, who has represented the district since 2019 and is running for Congress.
Measures A & H
San Diego voters had their say on Measure A, which, if passed, would place an additional tax on people’s homes they do not live in and that remain empty for more than half the year.
Some voters in the areas of Oceanside, Vista and Carlsbad voted on Measure H, which, if passed, would allow Sharp HealthCare to form a partnership with Tri-City Medical Center.
San Diego City Council
Four city council districts were on the primary ballot, with Districts 4 and 6 having the current representative running for reelection against other candidates, and Districts 2 and 8 being open races since those districts’ current candidates are in their final term.
Chula Vista mayor, city council
The key races in Chula Vista are for mayor and City Council Districts 1 and 2, all three with incumbents in the running and ahead in their respective races one week after voting ended.
Congressional District 48
The race for the district was wide open after Rep. Darrell Issa (R) announced he would not run for reelection in the newly drawn district, and AP projects that Republican Jim Desmond and Democrat Marni Von Wilpert will advance to the general election.
