Sacramento Motel 6 shooting leaves one dead, search on for suspect
HOMEOWNER GETTING THAT CALL? NO. ABSOLUTELY. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU’RE OUT OF STATE LIKE THAT. NOW LET’S GO TO SACRAMENTO COUNTY. AND THAT’S WHERE RIGHT NOW SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES ARE INVESTIGATING A DEADLY SHOOTING INSIDE THE LOBBY OF A MOTEL SIX, RIGHT ALONG ELK AVENUE. THAT’S WHERE WE FIND KCRA 3’S MIKE TESELLE THIS MORNING ON SCENE. SO WHAT’S THE VERY LATEST, MIKE? WE HAVE SEVERAL LAYERS TO THIS STORY. MIKE AND DEIRDRE, LET ME SET THE SCENE FIRST. WE’RE IN THE DENNY’S PARKING LOT BEHIND THE JACK IN THE BOX. AND THAT RIGHT THERE, THAT IS THE MOTEL SIX IN QUESTION. I WANT YOU TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE LOBBY OF THE MOTEL SIX. THIS IS WHERE? AT 130 THIS MORNING, THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT SAYS A 21 YEAR OLD MAN WAS SHOT AND KILLED. BY THE TIME DEPUTIES RESPONDED, THE SUSPECT FLED. AND THAT PERSON’S IDENTITY AND MOTIVE, AT LEAST PUBLICLY, IS STILL NOT YET KNOWN. DOES IT SEEM AS THOUGH THIS WAS TARGETED, MEANING PEOPLE WHO KNEW EACH OTHER AND POTENTIALLY A MOTIVE THAT MADE THIS CONTAINED TO THEM, AS OPPOSED TO A RANDOM TYPE ACT? YEAH. RIGHT NOW, IT’S STILL TOO EARLY TO DETERMINE THAT. DETECTIVES ARE REVIEWING SURVEILLANCE INSIDE, WHICH WILL PROBABLY GIVE US A LOT MORE INFORMATION. THEY’RE DOING THAT RIGHT NOW. AND THEN THERE’S ANOTHER LAYER TO THIS. I WAS SPEAKING WITH A LONG TERM TENANT HERE AT THE MOTEL SIX, WHO WAS STAYING HERE WITH HER FAMILY AS PART OF THE HOMELESS SHELTER VOUCHER PROGRAM. SHE SAYS IN THE LAST WEEK OR SO, FOLLOWING THE DISPLACEMENT OF TWO DOZEN FAMILIES AS PART OF THE CITY’S PROBLEMS AND ISSUES WITH ITS VOUCHER PROGRAM, THERE’S BEEN A LOT MORE ACTIVITY THAN USUAL HERE AT THE HOTEL. WHAT? SHE SAID SOME SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR, AT LEAST IN HER PERSPECTIVE. BUT AT THIS POINT, AS YOU HEARD, STILL VERY EARLY IN THIS INVESTIGATION, TO DRAW ANY CONCLUSIONS ABOUT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED IN THAT LOBBY HERE AROUND 130 THIS MORNING. MIKE, DEIRDRE, PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, IF THEY DON’T KNOW WHO THAT PERSON IS, WHAT WHAT ARE THEY TELLING PEOPLE? YEAH. DEIRDRE, I SPECIFICALLY ASKED THAT QUESTION OF THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID, YOU KNOW, AT THIS POINT IN TIME, THEY DON’T THINK THERE’S ANY REASON FOR PEOPLE TO BE CONCERNED. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, POINTING OUT YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AND BE VIGILANT. An early-morning shooting inside the lobby of the Motel 6 along Elsie Avenue has left one man dead and a search for a suspect is underway, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. “It doesn’t seem like there’s any active threat. However, you should always be cautious,” said Sgt. Edward Igoe, a Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman.Around 1:30 a.m., the communications center received a call of someone shot inside the lobby of the Motel 6, according to a sheriff’s news release.A 21-year old male was killed.
