(KRON) — An Oakland man suspected of being involved in Sunday’s theft of multiple Alameda County Sheriff’s Office vehicles was identified by authorities on Tuesday.
The theft was discovered Sunday morning just after 7 a.m. by sheriff’s office personnel at the Alameda County Parking Garage, located at 165 13th Street in Oakland. Deputies identified five vehicles that were stolen, including two belonging to the sheriff’s office, two belonging to another Alameda County agency and one belonging to a rental car company.
Darryl Roach, 56, was spotted by an AC Transit employee driving one of the stolen vehicles, the sheriff’s office said. Responding deputies conducted a high-risk stop and arrested Roach on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle.

The remaining four vehicles were located the same day by 4 p.m. through the use of automated license plate reader cameras. Each vehicle was within a 1.5-mile radius of the parking garage, according to authorities.
“At this time, investigators have not determined whether additional suspects were involved,” the sheriff’s office wrote Tuesday.
Officials are reviewing security protocols at the Oakland parking garage to help prevent potential future incidents.
