A man died and a woman was seriously injured in a Monday morning shooting at a medical office near a busy shopping district in San Jose, police said.
Investigators believe the man was the suspected shooter, said Stacie Shih, public information officer for the San Jose Police Department. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The woman was in critical but stable condition as of early Monday afternoon, Shih said. Both the man and woman suffered at least one gunshot wound.
The pair knew each other, but police were still working to determine the nature of their relationship, Shih said.
Police said that it was an isolated incident and that there was no ongoing threat to public safety.
Shih said the shooting happened just before 10:15 a.m. in an outside area at the Kaiser Permanente medical offices located on the 5700 block of Cottle Road, which include psychiatry, vision and physical therapy services in a nonemergency setting.
The office is located down the street from Kaiser’s San Jose Medical Center and near a retail hub in the Village Oaks neighborhood south of downtown San Jose.
A Kaiser spokesperson referred questions to San Jose police.
Officers were still working to determine the motive and circumstance surrounding the shooting, Shih said.
