Complete election results for June 2 primary in San Diego County

Below is a quick summary of key races, with an estimated 95.3% of ballots counted in San Diego County – approximately 11,000 ballots remain to be tallied – and 32 days remaining to complete the count across the state of California. The latest county figures were released Tuesday; a new count is not expected until Friday.

Since it’s a primary, the top two vote-getters will advance to the Nov. 3 general election.

Governor – Democrat Xavier Becerra has moved into first place with 27.9% of the vote, followed by Republican Steve Hilton at 25% and Democrat Tom Steyer at 22.6%. Click for statewide table.

Other State Offices – Incumbents Rob Bonta and Shirley Weber are set for re-election as Attorney General and Secretary of State, with tallies over 50%. Leading for Lieutenant Governor are Fiona Ma at 19.2%, Gloria Romero at 18.1% and Josh Fryday at 14.6%. For Insurance Commissioner, it’s Jane Kim at 27.2%, Ben Allen at 19.5% and Stacy Korsgaden at 15.7%. And for Superintendent of Public Instruction, the leaders are Sonja Shaw at 22.8%, Richard Barrera at 20.2% and Wendy Leal at 8.8%. Click for all state office results.

Congress – In the contested 48th District, it’s Jim Desmond at 39.4%, followed by Marni von Wilpert at 21.1% and Ammar Campa-Najjar at 10.7%. Click for full district results.

State Senate – In the contested 40th District, Democrat Mara Elliott has 47.9% to Republican Kristie Bruce-Lane’s 27.8%.

State Assembly – In the contested 74th District along the north coast into Orange County, Democratic challenger Sergio Farias is trailing incumbent Republican Laurie Davies, 52% to 48%.

Judicial Offices – Jodi Cleesattle is leading Adam Noakes by 55.6% to 44.4%, and Tia Ramirez is ahead of Nicole D’Ambrogi by 50.4% to 39.1%.

County Supervisor – In District 5, Republican Rebecca Jones has 38.36%, followed by Democrat Kyle Krahel with 22.15% and Republican John Franklin at 18.23%.

County Treasurer/Tax Collector – Appointed incumbent Larry Cohen is leading with 47.4%, followed by Shirley Nakawatase with 33.7% and Joel Anderson at 15.7%.

San Diego City Council – In District 2, Richard Bailey leads with 34.88% of the vote, followed by Nicole Crosby at 33.71% and Josh Coyne at 13.28%.

In District 4, incumbent Henry Foster III has increased his lead against challenger Martha Abraham – it’s now 22 votes, up from 13; he has 40.76% of the vote to Abraham’s 40.66%. Foster had trailed in the earliest returns.

In District 6, incumbent Kent Lee is ahead of challenger Mark Powell, 58.78% to 41.22%.

And in District 8, Antonio Martinez leads with 29.56%, followed by Gerardo Ramirez at 25.48% and Venus Molina with 23.84%.

Measure A – The measure to tax second homes is losing 53.3% to 46.7%.

Chula Vista – Incumbent Mayor John McCann appears headed for re-election with 56.16% of the vote.

In City Council District 1, incumbent Carolina Chavez leads with 43.36% of the vote to Greg Martinez’ 23.9%.

And in District 2, it’s Jose Preciado at 48.61% followed by Angelica Martinez at 27.26%.
