Though born into one of R&B’s most storied musical families, Alex Isley has spent more than a decade carving out her own unique space in the music industry with her jazz-influenced R&B music.
The singer-songwriter grew up surrounded by music as the daughter of legendary Isley Brothers guitarist Ernie Isley, then sharpened her own voice through vocal training and jazz studies at UCLA. Since releasing her first EP, “The Love/Art Memoirs,” in 2012, she has built a following with songs characterized by detailed harmonies, relaxed production and a neo-soul sound.
On “When the City Sleeps,” her major-label debut that arrived in March, the Grammy-nominated artist leans further into that style, working with collaborators including James Fauntleroy, Syd and Kaytranada.
Isley is set to bring the album’s late-night mood to San Francisco when her tour stops at the Fillmore on Thursday, June 18.
