(FOX40.COM) — With temperatures heating up in Northern California, Sacramento’s city pools are preparing to open this weekend.

The summer swim season will start this Saturday and Sunday, and the city’s parks department announced this week that the first weekend will offer discounted admission.

Admission to city-operated neighborhood pools is just $2 this weekend, a city spokesperson said. After that, regular admission will be $3 for children and $5 for adults.

The North Natomas Aquatics Complex — open seven days a week — costs slightly more: $7 for children and $9 for adults.

“Providing safe, affordable and accessible aquatic opportunities for Sacramento families remains a top priority,” Sjon Swanson, recreation manager at the Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment, said in a news release. “Our pools offer residents a place to stay active, cool off during the summer months and connect with their community.”

All city pools are open on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer, officials said. In addition to daytime swimming, the department said many neighborhood pools host a “Family Night” recreational swim on a weeknight, with staggered schedules so at least one pool hosts an evening swim every night.

The city also operates spray parks and splash pads, which are active until Oct. 1.
