Alongside beach trips, summer classes and the hot, hot summer, the beginning of June ushers in Pride Month. Pride is a national month of celebration honoring the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, which was integral in the liberation of LGBTQ+ people in the United States. This year, Pride Month comes on the backs of numerous anti-LGBTQ+ bills from the federal government and state governments, making the celebration, protection and uplifting of the LGBTQ+ community more important than ever. The Bay Area has long been known as a place of LGBTQ+ acceptance and freedom, so to celebrate the diverse identities of our community, we are highlighting 14 different events happening this month. This ranges from historical tours to parades to parties for our LGBTQ+ and ally Bears to celebrate Pride all month long! Events are all a BART ride or even steps away from the UC Berkeley campus.

1. Happening in Berkeley

June 13: Morti-Pride

Come out to the Ashkenaz Music and Dance Community Center to see the all-LGBTQ+ edition of Mortified, a comedy show in which adults share their teen diaries, poetry and angst in a hilarious and lightly mortifying style — exclusively featuring LGBTQ+ stories this month! All ages are welcome.

June 19-26: Frameline50 Film Festival at Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive

Catch a queer film at the Frameline50 Festival, the largest international LGBTQ+ film festival coming to our very own BAMPFA. Four different films will be shown throughout the week, so grab a student-discounted ticket and prepare to see the cutting edge of LGBTQ+ cinema right on our own campus!

Every Tuesday and Thursday in June: Pride Month Queer-aoke at White Horse Inn

Did you know that the oldest operating LGBTQ+ bar in the United States is on our very own Telegraph Avenue? Located just 15 minutes from campus, explore local history and let loose at one of the iconic White Horse Inn’s numerous events, including singing your heart out at Queer Karaoke (Queer-aoke!) every Tuesday and Thursday in June. This event is only open to those 21 or older.

Aug. 30: Berkeley Pride 2026: From Joy to Justice

Hosted by the Pacific Center for Human Growth, Berkeley’s largest Pride event happens in August, rather than June, so more students will be able to attend. Mark your calendar and come to this downtown festival of joy, love and celebration for LGBTQ+ people and allies in the Berkeley community and beyond.

2. Oakland

June 13: Queer Latine Pride Block Party

Celebrate the intersection of culture and pride at the Queer Latine Block Party, held in Uptown Oakland. Connect with the greater Oakland community with a host of Latine and LGBTQ+ DJs, performances, local vendors and community organizations.

June 14: PRIDE Party + Tie-Dye & Bleach-Dye Workshop!

Crowded parties not your thing? Would you rather chill out with a beer and a craft? Look no further: Oakland’s Original Pattern Brewing is hosting a tie-dye and bleach-paint party at this charming microbrewery located just steps from the Lake Merritt BART station. Purchase a ticket for a T-shirt and craft supplies, or just come by for free live music and a laid-back, inclusive atmosphere.

Aug. 16: Oakland Pride Parade

While also not held in June, Oakland’s Pride Parade is sure to be a hit. Running through the heart of Downtown Oakland and culminating in a festival at the Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, this annual parade brings the city together to celebrate the diversity, resilience and joy of its residents.

3. San Francisco

June 10: Built This City: An SF Pride Variety Spectacular

Celebrate the performers that give the city its spark at the Built This City Pride Variety Spectacular. Get ready to cheer for performances from Sister Roma, Pippi Lovestocking, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus and many more. It’s sure to be an unforgettable, glitter-filled night!

June 12: Pride Night at Oracle Park

Love baseball? The June 12 San Francisco Giants game against the Chicago Cubs is a specially dedicated Pride celebration, so come out to support your favorite Bay Area team and the queer and trans community of San Francisco. There will be pregame festivities, in-game features and a postgame fireworks show featuring music by queer artists.

June 16: Valley of the Queens Queer History Walking Tour

Traverse the streets of San Francisco’s Tenderloin and Polk Street neighborhoods to witness the historical beginnings of LGBTQ+ icons and movements through the Tenderloin Museum’s queer history walking tour. Get a personal look at some of the most iconic and influential sites of San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ history and an expert’s perspective on the stories of courage, resilience and triumph that continue to shape the community today. Admission to the Tenderloin Museum is also included.

June 19: Castro Night Market

Pride wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Castro District, one of the nation’s first and San Francisco’s most iconic LGBTQ+ neighborhoods. Take the BART out to The Castro for its Queer Night Market, a celebration of the neighborhood’s people, music and culture. All ages are welcome.

June 19-21: Fresh Meat Festival of Trans & Queer Performance

Support local LGBTQ+ performers and partake in an event of trans and queer performance, art, joy and celebration because performance is a protest! Enjoy a pre-show red carpet, non-alcoholic bar and nine spectacular performances on this thrilling occasion of dance, music, drag and theater.

June 28: San Francisco Pride Parade

As the largest pride parade on the West Coast, you simply cannot miss this free, city-wide party. Stretching from Beale and Market streets to the Civic Center Plaza, the San Francisco Pride Parade regularly draws hundreds of thousands of attendees with DJs, elaborate costumes, parade floats and a feature from UC Berkeley! The celebration kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Fridays and Saturdays through June 27: Compton Cafeteria Riot

My personal favorite event on this list, this show is live theater like you’ve never seen it before. Located at the Tenderloin Museum, it’s an interactive show where audience members are served dinner throughout a live, immersive retelling of the Compton Cafeteria Riot, a struggle for LGBTQ+ liberation that predates Stonewall.

Although this list barely scratches the surface of the opportunities to engage in queer history and celebration, it offers a range of events, locations, prices and age ranges for all who are looking to celebrate or support the LGBTQ+ community. So whether you’re a party or a museum person, queer or ally, we hope you can find a special way to celebrate Pride this June.
