Cal State LA opened its Downtown campus in 2016, and for nearly a decade, it has served Angelenos working and learning in DTLA.
It features 12 classrooms, two state-of-the-art computer labs, student lounge areas and collaborative workspaces, designed to offer state-of-the-art education in its bachelor’s, master’s, certificate and professional training programs.
Cal State LA Downtown offers bachelor’s degrees in communication, psychology and business administration.
Its Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree completion program, with an option in Organizational Communication, is a two-year program designed for those wanting an education in a broad but growing field, while the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a management option, degree completion program provides students “with the tools, techniques and ethics required to succeed in business and related fields.”
Cal State LA Downtown offers master’s degrees in public health and social work.
“The Master of Public Health (MPH) offered at Cal State LA Downtown, includes a unique focus on urban community health serving diverse populations in urban areas like Los Angeles,” Cal State LA said on its website. “Students will understand how to improve health outcomes at the population level and how a variety of factors can impact the health of local communities. Cal State LA’s program allows both recent bachelor’s degree recipients and seasoned public health professionals to learn the intricacies of this growing field.”
The university’s downtown campus also includes a Fully Employed MBA (FEMBA) program, which allows students to earn their master’s degree in business administration in 16 months.
Alongside its in-person offerings, Cal State LA Downtown features online classes on weeknights and Saturdays.

Earlier this year, the LA Downtown News published the “Best of Downtown Los Angeles.” The publication included what residents and businesses voted were the “best” in DTLA — from retail and entertainment to medical and business services. Cal State LA was voted as one of the best colleges in Downtown by the community.
