One person was killed and several others were injured after a fiery rollover crash on Interstate 280 in San Francisco, near Mariposa Street, fire officials said Friday.

Firefighters found multiple people inside a “fully engulfed” burning car just after 12:20 a.m., a spokesperson said in an email. Paramedics transported four people to nearby hospitals and pronounced one person dead at the scene, officials said.

Investigators with CHP and the San Francisco Police Department were investigating the cause of the crash. The identities of the people involved were not immediately released.

The crash closed southbound lanes of I-280 and the Sixth Street on ramp for several hours, but they were reopened later in the morning.
