An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday, June 11, on suspicion of fatally stabbing another man near a business in west Long Beach earlier this month, authorities said.

Landon Sandoval of Long Beach was taken into custody in the 1400 block of Parade Street, around the corner from the crime scene, police said.

He was accused of fatally stabbing Arnoldo Andre Garcia Mendoza, 22, of Long Beach, police said.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the stabbing remained under investigation.

Police were called to the 1800 block of Harbor Avenue, between Parade Street and Pacific Coast Highway, about 8:30 p.m. on June 1 and found Mendoza suffering from a stab wound.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said.

Police did not disclose how Sandoval was identified as the suspect.
