In our all-access, everything-all-the-time, 24-7-365 world, it can take one aback to learn that some locations aren’t always, well, visitable.
Peek at these intriguing places from the street, you can, and find photos online, you might, and wonder what the inside of the building looks like, you certainly should, if your daydreams take you in that direction.
One such spot is hard to miss if you’ve been to Old Pasadena in this century, the last century, or, well, even the very end of the century that came before that one.
It’s Castle Green, the former hotel that is now the handsome home to a bevy of colorful residences, and the residents who have created one of the most memorable places to live in Southern California.
This straight-from-a-novel structure — and it has been seen on the small and big screen several times, including as a frequent backdrop in the Apple show “Shrinking” — is mostly closed to non-residents.
That, however, will change on June 14 when Castle Green opens for four fascinating, look-around hours beginning at 11 o’clock.
Tickets are on sale for the Castle Green Summer Tour and start at $44.52. While you should purchase online if interested, there will be a few tickets ready for purchase at the gate on the day of the event.
“Explore the original Moorish and Turkish Rooms, Grand Salon, Palm Court, Lobby with the Grand Staircase and the fully restored Bridge interior,” is the promise of the tour organizers. You’ll also get the opportunity to “… visit many private units.”
Built in 1898 and opened as a hotel in 1899, Castle Green still boasts much of its vintage beauty, charm, and details.
The June 14 event will also spotlight a “museum of artifacts” if you’d like to take a deeper look at the landmark’s storied history.
