Kruz Schoolcraft might be settling into a rhythm now.

The 19-year-old left-hander finished five innings for the second time in a row, striking out seven before low Single-A Lake Elsinore’s bullpen coughed up a lead in a 9-8 loss to visiting Ontario.

Schoolcraft allowed two runs on four hits and a walk in the no-decision. The Padres’ first-rounder a year ago, Schoolcraft had an 8.03 ERA before completing five innings for the first time his career in his last start on June 5.

He now has a 6.49 ERA through 34⅔ innings to start his first full year of pro ball. Schoolcraft has struck out 42, walked 25 and allowed hitters a .295 batting average.

Lake Elsinore’s bullpen allowed five runs over the final four innings.

Catcher Truitt Madonna (.719 OPS) drove in four runs on two doubles, walked and scored a run.

First baseman Kerrington Cross (1.004 OPS) went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Designated hitter Luke Cantwell (1.037 OPS) went 1-for-3 with three walks and two runs scored.

Lake Elsinore is 34-27.

RHP Josh Mallitz (2-0, 5.85 ERA) struck out three over two perfect innings in the win. 2B Ryan Jackson (.665 OPS) went 2-for-4 with an RBI double. CF Braedon Karpathios (.747 OPS) went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. C Ethan Salas (.784 OPS) went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

 

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (25-36)

TinCaps 10, Dayton 6: SS Justin DeCriscio (.749 OPS) went 2-for-5 with his third homer and four RBIs. 2B Rosman Verdugo (.758 OPS) drove in three runs on three hits, including his 10th homer. LF Alex McCoy (.874 OPS) went 3-for-5 with two doubles  and two runs scored. 3B Zach Evans (.645 OPS) went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. DH Kavares Tears (.765 OPS) and CF Kasen Wells (.732 OPS) both had two hits. Tears hit a double. RHP Abraham Parra (1-5, 6.40 ERA) allowed five runs in five innings in the win.

Guardians 6, Padres 5 (7): 1B Isaac Ponce (.710 OPS) went 1-for-3 with his second homer and a walk. 2B Santiago Vargas (.841 OPS) and CF Moises Valdez (.934 OPS) both had a double during two-hit games. C Colton Vincent (1.365 OPS) went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk and a run scored.

 

ROOKIE DSL BROWN (3-6)

Padres 6, Reds 4: 3B Yonaiker Hernandez (.651 OPS) went 3-for-5. C Jeanfranco Fernandez (.425 OPS) drove in two runs. SS Ronnier Heras (.776 OPS) went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two walks and a run scored.

SS Joniel Hernandez (.963 OPS) went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. LHP Emmanuel Polo (1-1, 6.75 ERA) struck out two over two shutout innings to earn the win in relief.
