The County of Santa Clara Public Health Department confirmed Saturday a measles case involving a South Bay resident who visited public places while infectious.
Health officials said the person, a Santa Clara County resident, traveled through San Francisco International Airport and visited two businesses in San Jose on Monday while contagious, leading the department to issue a warning regarding potential public exposure to measles.
The health department added the person is an adult, believed to be exposed to measles during international travel.
According to the CDC, measles is highly contagious and can cause serious health complications, especially in children younger than 5 years of age. The symptoms include high ever, cough, runny nose, red, watery eyes and rash.
Health authorities said the best protection against measles is the MMR vaccine.
