Tyler Schmitt didn’t need much help Saturday night.

He got lots anyway.

The 21-year-old right-hander struck out a career-high 11 over six shutout innings and Kerrington Cross led an onslaught at the plate in low Single-A Lake Elsinore’s 17-1 win over visiting Ontario.

A 17th-round pick last year out of Illinois, Schmitt (4-3) scattered four hits and a walk while lowering his ERA to 4.38.

Schmitt has struck out 57 against 27 walks over 49⅓ innings while allowing hitters a .243 batting average.

Cross (1.032 OPS), a third baseman, drove in four runs on two hits, including his ninth homer and 13th double.

Right fielder George Bilecki (.750 OPS) drove in three runs on his third homer.

Designated hitter Truitt Madonna (.744 OPS) drove in three runs on three hits, including a double.
