BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — That summer weather pattern continues across our region with hot temperatures from the South Valley to the Kern River Valley and out into the desert too. Meanwhile, it’s very warm across the mountains. This is due to that high pressure ridge continuing to keep a strong grip along the West Coast.
Please practice heat safety and always remember to “LOOK before you lock”. With today’s busy schedules and multiple things on people’s minds it’s not hard to unintentionally forget a child in a backseat of a car, especially if they fell asleep. This is extremely dangerous and can quickly become life-threatening.
A child’s body temperature increases 3 to 5 times faster than that of an adult. Even if it’s just 70 degrees outside, after 20 minutes the car’s interior rises to 99! When it’s 100 outdoors, your vehicle gets up to 119 in just 10 minutes. 20 minutes later it’s 134 inside your car!
