More than a dozen river gauge locations along the East Coast reached moderate flood stage during Monday afternoon’s high tide. A majority of these measurements were along the New Jersey coast, where a state of emergency is in effect.

Video shows the high water in Tuckerton Beach, Ocean County. Water came to the doorsteps of homes and nearly submerged a fire hydrant.
On nearby Long Beach Island, water covered the floor inside the Beach Haven fire house. The streets were also completely covered just north of there in Long Beach.
The high winds kicked up the surf in Seaside Park.
The beach is nearly wiped out due to the strong waves pounding the shoreline.
Delaware and New York were also experiencing coastal flooding.
A voluntary evacuation was in effect in Bowers Beach, Delaware. The Delaware National Guard has been activated to help with any storm-related issues in the state, the state’s department of emergency management announced in a news release Sunday.
This coastal storm is called a nor’easter because winds blowing from the northeast push water toward the coast, causing it to erode beaches, pile up water and cause flooding.
The wind gusts were as strong as what a tropical storm produces, despite this storm not being classified as one.
Winds started to subside Monday night, with wind advisories dwindling as the storm pulls away from the coast. Some coastal flood warnings and advisories remain in place overnight.
Some of the storm’s heaviest rain has already soaked the Carolinas, but the Northeast saw plenty more throughout the day Monday.
The nor’easter will finally pull away from the coast Tuesday. High pressure will build in behind the storm, resulting in dry weather and decreasing winds.
A least 3 deaths reported during nor’easter
At least three deaths have been reported over the last several days as rain and wind impact the Northeast, according to CNN.
There was at least one storm-related death in New York City. A 76-year-old woman was struck and killed by a solar panel in Brooklyn, officials said.
According to the Department of Buildings, wind tore a solar panel from the top of a carport structure in an outdoor parking lot. The panel flew about 20 feet through the air before hitting the woman. She was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.
A small plane crashed in Massachusetts Monday, killing two people and wounding another, as rain and high winds hit the area, the Associated Press reported.
