Detecting a melody from some unseen courtyard, byway, park, or apartment is a sweet surprise, one we value as we’re not usually treated to this uplifting moment in a daily way.
Unless, of course, that day is June 21, which is when an awesomely aural occasion takes place, a happening that celebrates sublime songs and the musicians who love to create fabulous flows.
Make Music Day began in France in 1982 and is now observed around the world, including here in the Southern California. There are several regional spots where the music-strong scene will be in the spotlight when the summer solstice arrives and marking both in a merry and meaningful way is part of the spirit of the celebration.
The free celebration, we should add: All of the pop-up concerts and shows are complimentary, no ticket or reservation required.
The 11th Annual Day of Music Fullerton will be one of the larger local offerings on June 21, with the Fox Fullerton Theatre, the Big Bowl at Fullerton Hillcrest Park, and Downtown Museum Plaza all in the sound-filled swing.
Los Angeles will have a few uplifting events, with Cali Rose & The CC Strummers stopping by the West LA Farmers Market, while “Music Meets the World Cup” at Downtown Santa Monica Metro Station beginning at 11 a.m., with a 5 o’clock wrap-up.
