BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A brush fire burned dangerously close to homes near Santa Clarita on Monday afternoon, with flames pushing through dense brush on a hillside in the Stevenson Ranch neighborhood, according to multiple sources.

The “Max Fire” was reported around 4:30 p.m. in a hiking area just west of the 5 Freeway, according to CalFire. It was reported initially at 31 acres. Its current acreage is unknown.

CBS LA reports that the fire began in a hiking area of Pico Canyon Park near Magnolia Lane and Autumn Place, per the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Flames were seen burning near a cul-de-sac lined with homes, on PG&E’s cameras.

Fire crews continued battling the blaze on the ground and from the air. No additional details on evacuations, injuries or containment were immediately available.
