OAKLAND — A man found dead with traumatic injuries on an East Oakland street Saturday morning was the victim of a hit-and-run traffic collision, authorities said Wednesday.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau is still trying to identify the man, believed to be a transient, authorities said.
The man was found about 8:43 a.m. Saturday outside in the 4700 block of East 12th Street, which is part of the Melrose district. He had major trauma to different areas of his body, authorities said.
An autopsy determined the injuries were consistent with being hit by a vehicle, police said.
Authorities are trying to determine what kind of vehicle hit the man and who was driving.
The death is the 15th traffic related fatality investigated by Oakland police this year, authorities said. Last year the city had 23 traffic related deaths the entire year.
