A total of 20 Oakland County softball players earned all-state honors from the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association, half of them on first team in their respective divisions, led by four from Division 1 champion Walled Lake Northern.

The Northern contingent included sisters Makenna and Aubrey Kresbaugh, Shaela Byrnes and Lyla Turmell, the last of whom was named the State Champs! Softball Player of the Year on Monday.

Makenna Kresbaugh led the Knights in home runs (15), RBI (67) and stolen bases (12) for the season, hitting .422 with 50 runs scored, 10 doubles, four triples, 16 walks and 14 strikeouts.

The Knights’ leadoff hitter and shortstop, Aubrey Kresbaugh hit .429 (54 hits, 15 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs), scoring 51 runs and driving in 26, walking 16 times and striking out 12.

Byrnes had the championship-clinching homer, one of seven on the season, a campaign in which she hit .462 (55 hits, 11 doubles, one triple), scored and drove in 36 runs, walked 22 times and struck out just seven.

For the season, Turmell was 29-2 in the circle, with an ERA of 0.913, striking out 259 and walking just 48 in 176.1 innings pitched, allowing 95 hits, 44 runs (23 earned).

At the plate, Turmell was 71-for-131 for the season (.542 batting average), with 53 RBI, 13 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, walking 19 times and striking out five. She homered early in Saturday’s 2-1 championship game win over Grand Haven.

From just up Bogie Lake Road, Lakeland put two players on the D1 first team: third baseman Emily Searle and shortstop Alyssa Goldman. A junior, Searle hit .545 with an on-base percentage of .571, an OPS of 1.634, with 61 hits, 12 home runs, 54 RBI and 46 runs scored, fielding .907 on the season.

Another junior, Goldman hit .415 (.515 OBP, 1.176 OPS) with five home runs, 44 RBI, 43 runs and 11 stolen bases, fielding .958 on the season.

Stoney Creek’s Allie Ray was dazzling at the plate as a sophomore, hitting .602 for the Cougars, with 71 hits — 24 doubles, seven triples and four home runs — 55 RBI, and an OPS of 1.675.

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Kaydence Hinkle allowed just 15 earned runs in 156.1 innings pitched (0.672 ERA), striking out 337 and posting a WHIP of 0.691, earning first-team Division 3 honors. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep shortstop Emersyn Rix-Renne had more than 240 career hits, and a .534 career batting average for the Irish, earning first-team D2 all-state honors, as well.

Madison Heights Bishop Foley pitcher Sasha Walker was the lone first-team honoree from Oakland County in Division 3. In 120.2 innings pitched, the junior gave up 18 earned runs (1.044 ERA), struck out 246, and allowed a batting average against of .112, and had a WHIP (walks, hits per innings pitched) of .820. At the plate, she slugged nine home runs among her 43 hits, driving in 55 runs, hitting .538, slugging 1.100, with an OPS of 1.754.

There were no honorees from the county in Division 4.
