A big FIFA World Cup match is happening between Mexico and South Korea on Thursday evening and the city of Chula Vista is celebrating by transforming its popular Third Avenue into a soccer destination.
The festivities are free and open to the public!
Thursday’s matches will be:
Switzerland vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina (12 p.m. to 2 p.m.)
Canada vs. Qatar (3 p.m. to 5 p.m.)
Mexico vs. South Korea (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.)
Since the World Cup kicked off on June 11, excitement for Thursday’s particular match has been mounting after both Mexico and South Korea won their opening day matches.
Starting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Third Avenue will host giant-screen broadcasts of the day’s matches, local cuisine vendors, family-friendly entertainment and the flurry of excitement throughout the day. To boot, a special surprise performance will follow the day’s final match.
“We are proud to create locations where families, fans and visitors can come together to celebrate our community,” said Mayor John McCann. “These soccer celebrations are about community pride, bringing people together and creating memorable experiences for residents and visitors throughout the summer.”
Another celebration will take place on July 19 at Southwestern College, also in Chula Vista, featuring food, a beer garden and giant screens.
