FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A man riding an electric bicycle was hospitalized Wednesday evening after colliding with a vehicle at a busy Fresno intersection.
Officers responded around 6:50 p.m. to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash at Palm and Shields avenues.
When officers arrived, they found an older man lying in the roadway unconscious but breathing.
Emergency crews transported him to Community Regional Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.
Police said the man was riding an electric bicycle southbound on Palm Avenue against the flow of traffic when he entered the intersection against a red light.
Investigators say the bicyclist then collided with a vehicle traveling eastbound on Shields Avenue that had a green light.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Based on statements from the driver and witnesses, Fresno police said the bicyclist appears to be at fault for the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
