There are more than 1,630 places across California where kids can get a free meal during the summer, according to an analysis by the Hearst Get the Facts data team.The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s summer meal program offers meals and snacks in person or to go for children 18 and under during periods when students are out of class for 15 or more consecutive school days.The sites are located in areas where half or more of the children who live are eligible for free or reduced-price meals, according to California’s Department of Education.
