The USS Midway will host the 21st annual “Battle of the Badges” on Saturday, with proceeds benefiting the Community Youth Athletic Center in National City.
The eight-bout card will feature boxers who are San Diego-area police officers, corrections officers, firefighters and military members. There will also be two fights featuring amateurs who train out of the CYAC.
The main event will be a rematch of last year’s bout between Krystle Jordan of the San Diego Police Department and Christina Soto of the National City Police Department. Soto won the last time they met.
“This event and our terrific sponsors help us with our mission of giving kids in our area a safe place to train, do homework and just hang out in a positive environment,” said CYAC executive director Clemente Casillas. “It’s not just about boxing. It’s about using the sport as a way to produce productive individuals who go on to do good things in our community.”
