Sacramento County deputies have taken a felony wanted suspect into custody after they barricaded inside a home on Goya Parkway.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A parolee at large was taken into custody Thursday after a SWAT standoff in Sacramento County that involved the use of a robot dog and a drone equipped with a magnet, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, Folsom police requested assistance from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office after tracking Austin Carter, 30, to a residence on Goya Parkway. Due to his history involving weapons-related incidents, the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail, including SWAT, was deployed.

Authorities said Carter barricaded himself inside a garage, prompting the deployment of armored vehicles, a Critical Incident Negotiations Team and tactical resources in an effort to resolve the situation peacefully.

During the operation, deputies used a robot dog named “Buster” along with other remote tools to move debris and gain access to the garage area, officials said. Authorities said the robot dog’s deployment marked its first operational use.

Drones were also deployed during the standoff.

Authorities said Carter was later located inside the residence armed with a knife. A drone equipped with a magnet was used to disarm the suspect, and a police canine ultimately helped take him into custody.

Deputies said Carter was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation following the arrest. No deputies were injured during the incident.
