BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Emergency personnel responded to a report of a pedestrian who was hit by a train, early in the morning on Thursday.

Around 3:46 a.m., both the Bakersfield and Kern County Fire Departments, Hall Ambulance and the Bakersfield Police Department responded to the incident on the 1100 block of Sumner Street.

Once on the scene, emergency crews located an adult man who sustained moderate injuries, including a head injury, from the train collision.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene before being transported to the hospital via ambulance for medical care.

BPD stated the preliminarily investigation suggests the victim was lying near the track’s railroad tracks as the train passed by. When the train was passing him, he was struck by an object on one of the train cars.

Bakersfield police transferred their investigation to the Union Pacific police once they arrived.
