SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — Since the news broke in January 2025 that T&T Supermarket was opening its first location in the Bay Area (and California), the clock started ticking as anticipation for the popular Canada-based Asian grocer began.
After a few setbacks in construction, the wait is over. T&T Supermarket is finally opening in San Jose on Thursday.
A day before the grand opening on June 18, KRON4 got a special first look inside the 50,000- square-foot supermarket at Westgate Center. Highlights include a buffet, a beauty section with products from Asia and a bakery with customizable cakes.

The San Jose location marks T&T’s third location in the United States, joining the two locations in Washington (Bellevue and Lynnwood). The chain has also announced plans to open in San Francisco (expected at the end of 2026) and Millbrae (slated for spring 2027).
T&T Supermarket CEO Tina Lee said she feels like she made the right choice in opening her first California location in the Bay Area — a place that can’t seem to have enough Asian grocery stores.
The region has seen a wave of recent Asian grocery stores, including H Mart in Dublin, Osaka Marketplace in Foster City, Seafood City in Daly City and Mega Mart in East Palo Alto.
“Don’t (sic) ya think? I made the right choice,” a jubilant Lee tells KRON4 when asked if the Bay Area was the right market to debut in California.
T&T Supermarket is referred to as “Canada’s favorite Asian grocery retailer,” a press release from the company states. It is also the largest Asian grocery store chain in Canada. T&T was founded in 1993 in Vancouver and now operates 37 stores across Canada.
“If there was any definition of the word ‘groceraunt,’ that would be T&T. I don’t think there’s anything else like this in San Jose. It’s worth checking out what we do here in Canada. It’s become a way of life,” Lee said. “And I hope San Jose gives up a big hug.”
