A man was stabbed Thursday morning after allegedly attacking a 65-year-old man with a wrench near Valley Children’s Stadium.
Officers responded to a reported altercation at 8:48 a.m. in the 1300 block of San Ramon Avenue.
When they arrived, they contacted the two men involved.
According to Fresno Police Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega, the victim told officers that a man armed with a wrench and acting erratically — possibly while under the influence — approached him and began swinging the tool.
The suspect allegedly struck the victim, who uses a walker, multiple times in the hands.
Trueba Vega said the victim used his walker to defend himself before pulling out a knife he kept in the walker and stabbing the suspect in the arm and chest in self-defense.
The suspect fled the scene, but officers located and arrested him a short distance away.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries and is listed in stable condition, police said.
The suspect will be booked into the Fresno County Jail on an assault charge and an outstanding warrant, according to Trueba Vega.
