The document provided emails exchanged by the unknown sender and the police department. An email by the unknown sender said she personally knew the victim and Mays after being introduced in June 2025. The email alleged Mays wanted all of the email sender’s money.

The same email read:

[REDACTED] AND KEVIN HAVE THREATENED TO HAVE MY CHILD TAKEN FROM ME IF I TOLD THE TRUTH.

The unknown sender remained anonymous. The report was forwarded to the Bakersfield Police Department for a follow-up.

The anonymous sender provided the number for the victim.

The document provided a Bakersfield Police Department report, which detailed a commercial sex advertisement on a website with the number provided by the sender. The ad was dated on September 3 and posted out of Sacramento.

The report read that on September 4, the victim was arrested by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office in Washington. Law enforcement notified the BPD official, who reached out to the records division, that the victim was driving a white Audi with Oregon plates.

The report said the Audi was a rental vehicle through Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Police went to the business in Bakersfield and were provided a rental contract, which showed Mays rented the vehicle through the CSUB Account, according to the report.

According to the document, the victim was talked to by detectives from the Sacramento Police Department at a hotel. The victim stated she paid Mays with the money she makes from commercial sex dates. The report read, “[Redacted] provides MAYS with updates regarding her sex dates, the amount of money she makes, and encouraging her to continue engaging in prostitution.”

The Sacramento Police report in the document read the victim engaged in prostitution in Sacramento, San Luis Obispo, and locations in Oregon. She said she relied on online advertisements. The report read that the victim began engaging in prostitution when she was 18. The report also states that the victim identified Mays as her boyfriend for about four months. The report said, “She confirmed that MAYS was employed by CSU Bakersfield and had told her he would help her get into college.” Documents read that after searching her phone, Mays’ phone number was found to be saved under the name “Daddy.”

A search warrant was obtained for Mays’ residence at the Edgewater Condominiums complex on Kroll Way and his vehicle. Two phones were also seized.

The report states Mays was interviewed and he informed police that “he has a girlfriend by the name of [redacted] and that she has the rental car (White Audi).” Mays said he wished to have an attorney and did not speak afterwards, according to the document.

According to the report, detectives found two assault rifles, with one without serial numbers, two unregistered handguns, five large capacity magazines, narcotics, scales, individual baggies, marijuana, and synthetic marijuana in Mays’ apartment. Further in the report, a search of the vehicle found there was a gun, a loaded magazine, and a small plastic bag containing suspected meth.

Mays’ roommate at the apartment was also interviewed and questioned.

Documents read that the head coach of CSUB was also interviewed. The report states, “[Redacted] said he did not suspect anything and was shocked which is why he sent it.” It furthermore said, “the email was threatening to him and his family so he was wondering if his son is in jeopardy because he lives with MAYS.”

After Mays was arrested, he faced charges of possession of child pornography with enhancements for possessing more than 600 images.

Mays pleaded not guilty to his charges. He is expected back on December 4th.

Rod Barnes, the head coach for Cal State Bakersfield Men’s Basketball, decided to step away after 14 seasons with the university in late September.
