Re “Trump defends deal to end war with Iran” (June 18): I am told that the Iran-U.S. memorandum includes the following: permanently halting military operations; reopening the Strait of Hormuz; lifting the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports; suspending sanctions on Iranian oil; negotiating an agreement regarding Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile; releasing billions in frozen assets; and negotiating at least $300 billion in reconstruction for Iran.
If true, and if it stands, what exactly will have President Trump achieved, compared to conditions under the prior nuclear non-proliferation agreement Trump pulled out of? A return to the pre-war status quo, the death of many people from both countries, the spending of hundreds of billions of our dollars first on the war and then on Iran’s reconstruction, and global economic pain. What a deal.

Within a few days of the beginning of the war in Iran our gas prices went from $4-something to $6-something. Now that the “war is over,” I wonder how long it will be before we see gas prices at $4-something again. Just a few days? Weeks? Months?
