Re “City Hall a contrition-free zone” (June 14): In response to this editorial, I am writing to thank Councilmember Raul Campillo for his actions, and also his humility, for not taking a victory lap in telling his colleagues and Mayor Gloria that he was right.

Campillo was the only one to do the right thing and risk the ire of his colleagues by actually calling the trash program a bait-and-switch.

He then doubled up on his “run the numbers” management wisdom this year on the Balboa Park parking fiasco. He was the one to point out that the new fees could drive nonprofits to the brink and depress admissions revenue at museums. His colleagues’ attempts to blame Gloria for the program’s rollout ring hollow when Campillo warned them all.

I look forward to more of his well-reasoned leadership and management. For standing alone, he won’t be rewarded by his colleagues. Maybe he will be rewarded, though, by the public.
