The City of Cupertino is hosting a full day of community celebrations on July 4 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with family-friendly activities, live music, swimming and fireworks.
The day starts with a pancake breakfasy at Quinlan Community Center from 8-11 a.m., hosted by the Optimist Club of Cupertino. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, fruit cup and coffee or hot chocolate. Orange juice is available for an additional $3. The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and younger. It’s cash only, and payment will be accepted at the door.
At Memorial Park, Independence Day observance starts with a flag raising at 10 a.m., followed by a children’s parade. For the latter, kids, families and pets are welcome to show their patriotic spirit by decorating their bikes, scooters, strollers, wagons or outfits in red, white, and blue. There will be kid’s activities and live music by Fire Peach at the Memorial Park Amphitheater from 10:30 a.m.-noon.
The Blackberry Farm pool will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on the Fourth. Food trucks are planned for the day, and Picnic areas will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Barbecuing is not permitted. Residents pay $8 for a dip in the pool; the cost for non-residents is $10.
A fireworks show will be launching from Hyde Middle School around 9:30 p.m. The campus will be closed to spectators. Designated viewing locations include Creekside Park, Sedgwick Elementary School and Miller Avenue near Bollinger Road.
