OAKLAND, Ore. — A wildfire broke out just north of Sutherlin on Sunday afternoon with smoke visible from Interstate 5.

Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) first responded to the Turkey Hill fire just after 4 p.m. with resources from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Oakland Rural Fire District, Sutherlin Fire Department, and North Douglas Fire & EMS all assisting to fight the flames.

While the fire initially resulted in lane closures on I-5 Southbound, the Interstate was fully reopened by 8 p.m.

As of Sunday evening, a perimeter had been established around the 10.9-acre fire while crews began mop-up work to extinguish lingering hot-spots. At this point, smoke may still be visible along the Interstate, though no delays or closures are in effect.
