We’re five weeks down now for the Pioneer Baseball League season and the Billings Mustangs continue to be the top squad out of the Treasure State to start the campaign.
The Mustangs are now 23-6 overall on the campaign after most recently sweeping three games in Missoula and winning two of three at home over Great Falls.
Billings remains second in the overall standings, just one game behind Long Beach Coast (24-6).
The Mustangs’ hot start to the season has been led by an offense that leads the PBL in batting average (.357), on-base percentage (.458), slugging percentage (.653) and extra base hits (164).
The Glacier Range Riders (16-14) and Missoula PaddleHeads (15-15) are in a tight competition for the second-best team in Montana while the Great Falls Voyagers (12-18) are lagging behind.
INDIVIDUAL PLAYER HEADLINES
Leading that offensive charge for Billings has been catcher Charlie Muniz who ranks second in the PBL for home runs (11) and sixth in RBIs (37) and shortstop Cameron Bowen whose 10 home runs are the third-most while leading the league in RBIs (43). Meanwhile Mustangs outfielder A.J. Shaver leads the league in batting average (.467) and is tied for sixth in RBIs (37) while ranking third in stolen bases (15).
On the mound, PaddleHeads ace Reece Fields is off to a nice star as his 2.81 ERA ranks seventh lowest and his four wins are the second-most in the league.
