The Fresno Falcons introduced Iain Duncan as their head coach as the hockey team prepares to relaunch after nearly two decades.
The team introduced Duncan last week at Selland Arena.
Driving the news: Duncan, a Canadian, was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in 1987 and earned a spot on the NHL All-Rookie Team in 1988 by scoring 19 goals and recording 23 assists.
He stayed with the Jets through 1991 but never appeared in the NHL again, instead playing on various minor league teams until he retired in 1998.
After his playing career, Duncan moved into coaching, including a stint with the Mentor Ice Breakers in the Federal Hockey League from 2018 to 2020.
What they’re saying: “I’m looking forward to growing the hockey community, making it a little stronger and a little bigger here in Fresno.” Duncan said.
He said fans should expect hard work to go along with physical and gritty play.
Duncan told McClatchy that the upper management of the Falcons takes care of its players, which was one of the main draws for him.
What we’re watching: Professional hockey is returning to Selland Arena for the 2026-2027 season.
The Falcons folded in 2008 due to financial issues, leaving Fresno without its minor league hockey team.
But the Franchise announced in May that it is relaunching as part of the Federal Prospects Hockey League, an independent professional minor league.
The Falcons will open their 28-game schedule in October and has a five-year deal with the league.
