The Athletics (38-40) come off back-to-back losses at home as they open a six-game road trip on Tuesday night, returning to the Bay Area to take on the San Francisco Giants (31-46) at Oracle Park in San Francisco. The Giants return home from a 2-3 trip that saw them beat the Atlanta Braves twice before getting swept by the Miami Marlins over the weekend. San Francisco took two of three from the Athletics in Sacramento last month in the first part of the Northern California rivalry series.

The Athletics settled for a four-game split with the last place Los Angeles Angels, blowing a late three-run lead in a 9-7 loss on Sunday. The A’s took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, sending nine men to the plate while getting three hits and three walks. Nick Kurtz added a two-run home run in the seventh inning to make it a 7-4 game before the Angels rallied with three in the eighth and two more in the ninth.
San Francisco mustered only four hits on Sunday, wasting a strong start by Logan Webb in a 2-1 loss at Miami. Webb went the distance, allowing two runs on five hits over eight innings. The Giants scored their lone run in the third when Casey Schmitt drove in Luis Arraez with an opposite field single.
The Giants open the series with left-hander Robbie Ray (5-6) on the mound. Ray comes in with a 4.07 ERA and 1.331 WHIP in 15 appearances and 14 starts, covering 79.2 innings. The Athletics give the ball to right-hander Aaron Civale (5-3), who enters with a 4.91 ERA and 1.585 WHIP in 12 starts and 58.2 innings.
