FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno Chaffee Zoo officials are asking the public to help locate a missing military macaw after the bird flew away.
Sarge, one of the zoo’s free-flying ambassador birds, flew off course and veered outside Roeding Park on Monday.
The zoo said it has been searching for her for the past 24 hours within the park and surrounding areas, and is now asking the community to help bring her home safely.

Fresno Chaffee Zoo Director and CEO Jon Forrest Dohlin is planning a news conference Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the zoo’s front entrance.
Military macaws are known for vibrant green feathers and a patch of red feathers on their heads.
The zoo described Sarge as about 12 inches long and said she has one toenail on each foot.
Macaws can often be found perched high in trees and may make loud, high-pitched squawks to signal to others that they are nearby.
Anyone who believes they have heard or spotted Sarge is asked not to approach her and to call the zoo’s 24-hour emergency hotline at (559) 286-7403.
