The San Jose Sharks are trading forward William Eklund, prospects Kasper Halttunen, and Brandon Svoboda to Ottawa. The Sharks are acquiring the ninth overall pick in Friday’s draft. The Senators acquired the ninth overall pick on Sunday in the trade that saw them send Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers. The Sharks now have the second and ninth overall picks in the draft; they’re now a team to watch ahead of Friday.

Eklund, in 78 games this season, had 53 points on 15 goals and 38 assists. He was a -31 with three power play goals and a game-winning goal. Halttunen played in 69 games in the AHL with the Barracuda, recording 35 points on 16 goals and 19 assists. He was a minus-six with eight power play goals and three game-winning goals. Svoboda played in 35 games at Boston University. He had 15 points on six goals and nine assists; he was a plus-six.
